Brokers were stealing people\u2019s assets. Those running investment funds were preferring themselves to their customers. They would take the good securities and give the bad securities to the fund. You name it, they were doing it. When you read the history, it\u2019s hair-raising as to how bad things really were.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6417\" src=\"https:\/\/newmoneyreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/KM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"566\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmoneyreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/KM.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/newmoneyreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/KM-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newmoneyreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/KM-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/newmoneyreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/KM-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Kathleen Moriarty<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Digital Asset Strategy Summit<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Moriarty, who describes herself as a \u2018securities lawyer by accident\u2019, is famous for her work in helping develop the first US-listed exchange-traded fund, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF, launched in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>ETFs have since grown to become a multi-trillion-dollar industry and an integral part of the world\u2019s securities markets.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen you read the history, it\u2019s hair-raising as to how bad things really were\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>More recently, Moriarty was involved in the Winklevoss twins\u2019 attempt to create a US-listed ETF holding bitcoin. That initiative was blocked by the US securities regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission, as have a number of other bitcoin ETF applications since.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SEC is looking out for the retail investor.
